anyone running a radar detector?

Yeah, a Passport radar detector saved my butt a few times back in the day... but HPD switched to lasers a few years back, not much you can do against that - by the time your detector goes off, they already got you. The outer island cops might still use radar but on Oahu, you're out of luck.

If you drive certain hot spots like the pali or highway near airport i would pick one up.

My laser detector used to go off on Kapolei parkway whenever the cops were out. Now that I live in town it only goes off on the Pali and when I pass a 7/11
I will look at what I have when I get home tonight.

I think everyone that has posted so far is the 5 mph over type. Which you will get ticked for at speed traps even though at most times you would not get pulled over for it. Most guys on the mainland have em. Just dont see them too much out here.

From what I know, the laser detector takes 1/3 of a second to pick up the police laser so the entire process takes place in a matter of seconds MAYBE closer to a minute if they double clock you.
Meaning if you are going much over 5mph over the posted you just will not have time to get your speed down.

thanks for all the input guys and girls! i'm working in ewa now and there are so many cops! and like everyone else said, 5mph over is still speeding.
today i seen a cop pull a u-turn form a left turn lane (he made a right u-turn in front of the traffic on the side of him) just to give a kid running across the street to catch the bus a jaywalking ticket.

I was running a passport sp7 with shifters. It was the best thing on the planet. It blows away any plug in type. it would alert 1/4-1/2 mile before the radar. I think it retails for 1500, but it has easily saved my a$$, in many a spirited driving situation. You get what you pay for.
