Thumbs up Alternative to Custom Tuning...Cobb AP Owners Read on...

So I've been looking around for a safe method to get a tune for my car...

Here is what I found:

A company called PDXTuning in Oregon sells custom Cobb AP maps. Their company is well known for their tuning abilities and they have done many Cobb AP Protune's for WRX's and STI's.

What you have to do is log onto their site and fill out the a map request page with all of your mods (be specific) and AP serial number.

Once this is done, they will contact you and basically e-mail or contact you on the specifics of your custom map.

I called them today to verify and here is some info you may need to know.

The PDX Protune maps and the Cobb Base/real-time maps cannot coexist on the AP at the same time. So what PDX normally does is not only send you your Protuned map but also a low boost/high boost/valet/anti-theft etc....PDX maps.

The cost for a protuned map for my STI with:

APS 3.5" TBE
GTSpecII Header
stock bypass valve, injectors, airbox, turbo, fuel pump.

$150...not bad...

I spoke with Travis and he is a very nice individual. His contact information is as follows:

sales@pdxtuning.com

503-624-2919

He says out of the box, an STI RWHP is about 240 on their dyno, Cobb Stg2 ~260-270, he says with my mods (which they have done on a car before already) will put out in the 290 RWHP range....

hmmm....so I am about to do the order...

here is a link to the website for those interested...

http://www.pdxtuning.com/mapupgrade.htm

btw...he says they have lots of previously done protune configurations and from reading the posts on the NASIOC site, many vf-34 turbo maps as well (Myron are you reading this.... )

^^^no problem man...

This is going to be a much cheaper alternative to a custom tune...

I asked about a tune for a stage 4 upgrade

(Turbo/injectors/FMIC/Fuel Pump) etc...like the Perrin GT-30 and GT-35 kits...Travis said that he would be able to provide us with a safe, conservative map but to really unleash such a beast...they really recommend a dyno...

Regardless though, he said a a "safe" and "conservative" tune still meant "HUGE" power increases with the stage 4 kits...I'll be keeping this in mind for the future...now I wish I would have picked up Orville's SR-50 Turbo....

I'm going to be ordering a set of maps

for my particular set-up...as we all know...no dyno to prove the results...but I will give some feedback once I redo my maps...

On a side note...I will be asking the lead tech (I think his name is Mike) whether he recommends putting in new plugs prior to the reflash...I may be getting the one step colder plugs...or whatever he recommends.

If anyone wants to do some additional research, go to NASIOC.com and put "PDXTUNING" in the search field...I haven't heard one bad thing about these guys except for the fact that they are in such high demand that it's hard to get a hold of them. As a personal experience, I called them yesterday at about 10am our time and it took two rings to get a hold of Travis...so no problems here...

If you have any reservations, give them a call...cool guys.

Brent

Alright, I'm gonna bump this old thread. I've been successfully using an XEDE for almost three years and it's been good to me and my MY04 STi. About to switch up to an Accessport in a couple months just for the added flexibility and the fact that I'm just about over the idiosyncracies of piggybacks.

Has anyone here gotten one of PDX's OTS "custom" maps for their Accessport car? Been on nabisco alot lately and seems like everyone that has is pretty happy with their services and maps...

Also, what ever happened to bringing out a tuner from COBB? Did that not work out? I've been a good boy and used my search but.....

Let me know! Thanks y'all...
