"aloha from the summit of *-^-mauna kea-^-*"

That's gdogg's sig. So these pictures are dedicated to him

Earlier this same day, the temp was 0 degrees at the summit, so I figure sleep in some more and then hit the road! My wife and I forgot how quickly you become fatigued due to the very thin air at the summit, 13,796 ft elevation. We did a short hike and was huffing and light-headed, haha.

Holy bejesus! I was up high when I was on the big island, but I don't think I was up on Mauna Kea. I was training with the Army and though we were preparing for the high elevation of Afghanistan (and were seriously feeling the effects...one of the hardest days in my life) I don't think we were on the cano.

Were you actually on Pohakaloa Training Area?

I also went up there a few years ago while we had so down time from training in PTA. I never have had the chance to take my suby up there but it is on my list of things to do before I leave hawaii.

I literally washed the car (and did some light waxing -- yay Rejex) before going up the mountain. I usually wax my rims too, so they repel the dust quite well. So thankfully, the car was still clean for the pics. Heading downhill is another story tho hehe... even in low gear, the braking made a lot of brake dust!

Oh, one funny note. I have a Worx blowoff valve (don't scold me... i know they're useless in a stock sti) which is normally set to 50% atmosphere vent. At sea level, the phsssst sound is just right for me. When I reached around 8000 ft elevation, I swear the bov made little more than a pfft sound. It was hilarious.
When I reached the Ellison Onizuka visitor center to take a short break, I dialed in the bov to 100% recirc just to be safe. By then, the bov made almost no sound anyway.

To answer your question gdogg:
I'm on 28th ave on Kaloli. We drive through Shower everyday since it's the optimal route to get to the main highway in the busy traffic mornings.
