Aloha 500

Anyone signing up?

BMW of Honolulu and BMW Car Club of Hawaii present

The Aloha 500™
500 minutes in the Ultimate Day!™

Saturday, July 26, 2003
Hawaii Raceway Park

8 am to 4:30 pm

Our team of qualified driving instructors will teach you to get the most out of your car! You will be instructed in your own car in vehicle dynamics and weight transfer through car control exercises. These exercises include skidpad, emergency avoidance and slalom drills. The day will then progress to the road-racing track where you will be able to drive on an actual racetrack and have expert in-car instruction. This is your chance to put what you have learned to use!

For more information or an application, please call Owen at

(808) 732-5155 or e-mail at ofbmw@hawaii.rr.com

I was under the impression that you had to have completed at least one BMW driving school to attend this upcoming event?

EDIT: Whoops I'm thinking of another BMW event I was notified about. Perhaps Tim knows what I'm talking about as I threw away all that info I got in the mail.

well, you beat me to the post

There are 9 spots as of today for people who have 'no' track experience, or did not attend the 'Spring' Fling'. If you have been to track day, or autoX regularly, then you can just sign up and run.
Those who have no track experience will participate in a car control clinic that day, ... that is why there are limited spots available I imagine.

Actually, I think this is the same event you are talking about, but it looks like they decided to use the same format and allow allow levels of drivers.

Here is more info:

$199.00 before 7/21/03
$219.00 after 7/21/03
$249.00 day of event
plus
$50.00 if you are not a BMWCC member (membership cost)
$15.00 for helmet rental (or bring your own)

If you want the application and inspection form PM me with your email address and I'll send them to you.

It sounds like this is going to be a repeat of what we did in April rather then a second day. If so here is how it worked:

We were put into one of 4 groups (beg, inter, adv1, adv2).
The beginnners did a car control clinic for most of the morning on the unused portion of the short track. The other 3 groups rotated through 20 minute sessions on the short track all morning. We always drove with an instructor and the instructor drove our car a few laps on the first session to show us the lines.
In the afternoon we had one 20 minute session on the long track with the instructor driving the first few laps.

With all that the total wheel time was around 80 minutes.

It is expensive, but I felt it was well worth the money for the instruction. If you just want track time, you can't beat the price of track days though.

I know that if I was staying, I'd definitely spring the $250 just to learn more about my car and how to control it. Months of auto-x and a track day have taught me a lot, but I really would like the advice from an expert in the car. Do it!
