as for the recall...theres a valid concern of safety of the steering wheel...esp. if subaru knows about the problem....wouldnt want it to spread like what toyota tried to do.... the dash? well just gonna have to eat that unless its a safety issue with the wiring harness...

It would be nice to get a new dash in. Yes an 08 should not have this problem at all imo and even shaggy's co worker with an 09 is showing signs of this happening as well. The only reason I feel like not making a big deal out of it is cause mine somehow (though I haven't seen brents yet) seems to be the worst case of this issue so I feel like it's my fault haha. But as I read through the debates in this thread I'm thinking maybe I should just go down and have them look at it. As long as they don't take my extended warranty money lol.

with an extended warranty....granted it depends what warranty plan you have...
the good ones will be bumper to bumper anything wrong goes....and your dash would be covered under warranty...I'd use your warranty...its what you paid for...

must have because i heard that some lexus models have the same problem right off the boat. in any case i don't think that Servco should have to pony up the parts for the replacement but i think that's likely why they want to investigate the issue and if they can determine that a recall needs to happen at least they can stop the out of pocket expense. john you should go down and have them look at it and even though you might not get a new one at least you can help to identify a possible material problem and stop future cars from suffering the same fate. k i'm off to buy a dashmat for my Audi =P

That was my intentions with thinking about going down there. So future new car owners don't have to experience the same stuff. Whether I get a new dash or not I don't care hahaha.

This happened to my is350 when I had it.. The previous owner used armor all on it and it turned to tar in the sun, I would if kept the car but I couldn't stand it.. My friend has the same car and year, he never uses anything but a damp micro fiber cloth on it.. He also tinted his windshield with clear uv film and his dashboard is flawless. This is a common problem with higher end cars that use the "soft touch" coating on their panels.. BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, ect. All have his problem. This is why I love the plain old plastic dash in my STI lol

hate to play the devil's advocate here but it sounds like Brent and the other owners with this issue have a valid complaint. just because the warranty is up doesn't mean that the manufacturer is not still liable for putting out a product with defects. things are recalled all the time on cars that are way past their warranty period and if a true defect is found then a recall should be issued and those with the affected parts should get them replaced. Dylan this isn't an issue of normal wear and tear so your steering wheel analogy makes no sense and the fact that your old-*** dash doesn't have a problem yet a much newer one does would suggest a problem no? Shaggy you make some valid points but i know you and if it was your car, you'd be doing the same thing. if you can honestly tell me that John should have to pay for a new dash or just deal with it on an 08 then you're the crazy one my friend. anyway Brent i hope you get things sorted and i'm glad that servco is a great company and stands behind what it sells, even when it doesn't have to. k now don't get butthurt, you know you guys are all my friends....except Dylan....no homo
Honestly if Subaru decides to fix it then good for you, but I guess you can say its whoevers fault for the ****ty material they used on the dash.
