Just my 2 drunken cents hahaha. Drop in filter w/ stock air box net the best gains. ( ddepending on what other mods). I like the sound that any short ram intake provides. But too help you even furhter i say go w/ a short ram if your set on getting a intake, because a CAI is point less since the air is super heated once iy enters the turbo.

i'm using the blitz. . . i fear that i may be gulping the hot air like mario states. i do like the sound though might just return back to stock box(using a.m. filter) wish there was a dyno to really see the difference on paper

Hey Gdogg its ok to suck up all the hot air in the engine bay since its just going to be super heated by the turbo any way. Its the intercooler that does the job of cooling the intake charge.

The cooler the air the better; regardless if it gets superheated by the turbo. The turbo can only add so much heat to the air and the lower the Tinitial, the lower the Tfinal. For instance, if the intake temp is 70 then it increases to 100 in the turbo. If the temp in is 100 then the temp out of the turbo will be 130. I know that it is not linear but that basically what you get. The intercooler can only remove so much heat from the air so given the same temp drop, the intake temp will be greater for the hotter ambient air temp. So continuing the example; the intake temp at 100 will drop to 80 and the hotter intake air will drop from 130 to 110.

A different slant.

The stock intake is good. What you have to ask yourself is where are you going? If you're staying with a TMIC, get a drop in filter. If you're going with a FMIC, you'll have to get a shorty or CAI intake. Decide what your goals are. The CAI/stock intake debate has been beaten to death.

In the future I may change to the FMIC but as of right now will be staying with the TMIC. I guess my decision has been made to stick with the Blitz SUS Intake for my "STI". Again, not sure what mods I should go with on my STi. The STi is so new that not many have tried things with it...I don't know. Doing the best research I can before spending bucko bucks.

Not sure

why you want an aftermarket intake with a TMIC. To each his own.

My 2 cents... <-- Disclaimer

If you going for straight power I would:

Step 1
Open up the exhaust from the turbo back along with a well tuned Engine Management (EM) solution. Right now your options are limited to Vishnu for tuned EM, but that will change in 6 months as other options become available.

At this point you are probably going to be pushing the stock turbo to it's limits, so if you want MORE Power move on to

Step 2
Turbo to match what your long term goals are. You will probably also have to upgrade injectors and maybe fuel pump. Depending on the turbo you'll probably also want to consider a larger TMIC or FMIC. At that point a good CAI may help since you may need to pull more air in to feed a larger turbo. Make sure you have a good EM solution tuned to your specific mods.

A CAI, while cool may not really buy you much as the stock air intake system flows plenty of air for the stock turbo.

As San said, decide where you are going and build based on that.
