I purchased an odyssey this week thanks to the recomendations from Cody and oldmansan. I ordered it from http://www.portablepower.com/items/.../SL105/37L105S6 on Tuesday and it was delivered on Friday.

The install was easy on my '03 wagon and the stock battery tie down was sufficient.
Car started up great. No problems.

Good question. I was interested to know as well, so I pulled off my J-hooks a minute ago for a quick look.

I noticed that one hook was shorter than the other (by a 1/4" or so) and that the short J-hook also had about 1/4" more threading than the longer J-hook.

I'm guessing these parts have a pretty wide manufacturing tolerance, and therefore everyone's J-hooks may be a bit different.

Dan....I ran into trouble finding a local dealer (Sunnyvale, CA) that carried the group 35 red top optima (positive terminal on the right). Since I was forced to order a replacement online, I found this thread and went with the odyssey.

time to revive an old thread for an answer. My battery is starting to slow down (water level is fine) but recently the lights have been starting to flicker. I beefed up the grounding a slight bit when I got the car over a year ago, but haven't changed anything recently. I'm going to try beefing up the grounding more (should have used thicker wiring) but I'm afraid of how long my stock battery will last. In a few months (before winter) I plan on having an extra set of fog lights (so 2 sets of fogs) and a set of driving lights (I live down a long twisty road, so extra light is going to be nice). Anyways, once I have those extra lights I plan on changing out the battery. SHould I get a red top or yellow top? It gets cold up here and I will drive the car regularly, although it may sit for a day or two at a time sometimes. Also, in a year or year and a half I'll be moving out east but leaving the car here, would I be able to just discharge the yellow top and recharge it when I return?

I'd recommend just getting the red top.

You do not want to discharge the battery and let it sit for a long time. You should charge it fully and pull it from the car to store, or use a battery maintainer. A lot depends on how long the car will sit and how much current draw (from alarms, etc) you have when it's sitting. When pulled from the car, I believe the Optimas will hold enough charge for a year.....but you should double check that.

I have a stock 07 Impreza wagon and I am interested in getting a lightweight battery to shed some weight in the front. Is the Odyssey 680 battery mainly for racing or can it be used for daily commuting? How about driving in the winter (Tahoe, snow)? How long does the battery last? Thanks.

^Mine's still going strong into it's 3rd Winter, but I've heard people say they fail prematurely too.
