Acceleration #'s on a WRC car?
I know we talked about it in the past, and people alluded to having seen a "road test" done by a magazine re: acceleration figures on a WRC car.
Anybody have those? Can anybody remember any details?

Now I know that their powerplant is probably very expensive and very sophisticated, but it seems to me what makes them so impressive is their trannies and their suspension.
For instance, I know that the SCCA rally folks' Suby's are nowhere near as well engineered as the WRC ones, but I think that it probably wouldn't be that hard for a SCCA owner to get his car to 4.1 and 12.8@104. On the other hand, isn't it that sequential shifter that separates the men from the boys? And their $10-15k (what DMS?) coilovers.
All that I know is that it awes me to see how a WRC car reacts at the far end of a jump. It just lands like it was never airborne.

Purpose built performance, Pat. That's what it's all about.
Just like I bet my Mustang could have smoked a NASCAR down the dragstrip - but it could end up taking the return road at full speed while I was lockin' up the brakes.

I think I saw a thing os Speed Channel during a WRC event that highlighted the Subie Tranny. It costs about $70,000 on its own and they gave some crazy figure like it has the ability to shift from 1st to 6th and back to 1st faster than most conventional cars can shift 1 gear!!!
Anyone know if these numbers could be right? Or did I dream this?

Because of this, the SOA cars have a much broader powerband then the WRC cars, thus no need for the 6 speed.
AND, because of the costs involved with the electro-hydraulic-super-duper trannies, they've been deemed illegal for use in our Open class - very few teams have the funds to purchase and maintain them.
The SOA team uses Prodrive-spec suspension built by Ohlins. But for the cost, DMS are great for the hobby or "club" guys.
