2nd hand turbo question

The "man with the plan" doesn't work there anymore. He was pretty much the "performance" turbo guy.
Don't know where else to look.
What type of turbo is it? There's really only one way of finding out - and that's bolting it on!
Axial play is to be expected (just a tiny bit) but anything lateral is cause for worry.
Smell the center section - see if it's burnt, look for heat checking/cracks/chips, etc., see if the compressor and turbine housing bores are smooth, other than that you have to bolt it on and pray!

If it does start smoking (knocks on wood), Jack over at iON said that he could "hybridize" it.

Propulsion Control Engineering is a shop in Halawa industrial whose business is turbochargers... Almost exclusively for the industrial/diesel/equipment market however...
Nobody local that I found (called ALL the shops) is able to source parts for and/or rebuild IHI turbochargers.
It's the reason I don't want an IHI turbo again (but will probably have to settle for).
