This is interesting,..I would like to get either a turbo upgrade too,..
Anyone got any good links to chime in for vendors? Maybe Jarrad can bring one down to save on shipping, but then we'd lose out on the tune,..

i would say depends on what you want. they are all pretty similar and will make good top end numbers, but your going to sacrifice the low end. it would probably be better to go with an 18g since you spool a lil faster and get a bit more low end grunt. in all seriousness i think if you look at the numbers that some of the guys were getting with the stock vf39 at the tune then there really isn't much of a need to go big....especially here in HI. just save it for the FXT

There isn't enough road on Oahu for a GT35 or any of those big turbos. You guys mostly have stop and go and the occasional stop light drag.
By the time most of these big turbos start spooling, you have to slow down for the inevitable stop and go traffic.
Big turbos give you a few advantages...you get to spend money on something you probably can't use and you can brag about that very thing that you won't be able to use.
Just feeling a little grumpy.
IMO the ideal car for Oahu gridlock is some kind of hybrid micro/econo car that recharges itself every time you stop the car.

I was actually thinking of going to a vf43 since they have apparently fixed the cracking issue and also installed a larger wategate/flapper which brings down the the boost creep issue. i dont know my brain is a mess trying to decide on what turbo to go with.
oh and I thought you knew...If I upgrade the STI's turbo then obviously you know where the vf39 is going to

I have a 20g and would tend to agree with the rest. You loose some on the bottom end and don't really get to enjoy the top end too much, especially on Oahu. Unless you like to make a lot of freeway runs, which is not my cup of tea.
I think going with the VF43 is a good idea (Although my VF39 had 30,000 miles and a lot of 1/4 miles passes and had no crack and no shaft play). But don't stop there. Add on meth injection and an external wastegate (plumbed back into the downpipe). Get it tuned and I think you will have a monster, all without a fmic and a lot less money.
But if top end is your thing, then a 20g or fp green would do nicely.

20g for daily driver
Green for more of a track used car
Helix - not as good as the other two, but not a lot of research done so not sure about this turbo at all.
The green will give you better top end and with race gas will pwn the other two.
