OK I've gotten a couple of questions about this.
What is the best way to give?
1. Money
2. Your time
3. Goods
The reason why money and time are placed over goods (such as food) is that, in the case of money, agencies are able to "stretch" a dollar further than they would be able to stretch a bag of rice.
Most non-profit agencies are able to buy products for MUCH CHEAPER than you or I could get them for at the store. So, think of it this way, each dollar you give is multiplied by about 7 to calculate it's usefullness to the agencies.
If you bring in one bag of rice...the agency gets one bag of rice. However, if you bring in the $5 (or so) it would've cost to buy the bag...the agency can buy 5-7 of the same or comparable bag.
Don't get me wrong...goods are still fine to give but your dollars will have a MUCH GREATER impact if you allow the agencies to use them more effectively.
Just some food for thought...
