I'm interested particularly in your turbo and engine management choices. What do you have and would you recommend it? Thanks.

Grats on the purchase!

TXS Stage 4 (VF30) + UTEC + TMIC (I don't think the upgraded intercooler is necessary).

12.87 @ 104.14mph

P.S. NOTHING wrong with Unichips if you're sure you're going to keep yourself at a certain mod. level indefinitely.

Thanks Richard, Wes & Pat. Looks like the VF30 is the turbo of choice here.

Richard,
I haven't bought the car yet but I've been in contact w/ Jeff and will probably go see him tomorrow. BTW, do you know of anyone running a 20g on a WRX? I noticed that Jun/GReddy has a TD06-L2 kit which is the same turbo setup I had on my previous MR-2. Kinda overkill but the sound of the external wastegate opening was wicked .

Pace is running a 20g and says it's pretty darned laggy. David_shm (sp?) is running an 18g and says it's great, much like a PE1820. The 16g's converted to front feed seem to be the best compromise of VF30 like spool with a bit more on top. The hybrid 16g's (16g compressor wheel with a IHI P20 exhaust housing) seem to be laggier than a VF30 and put out similar power #'s.

I don't think you can beat a VF30 for all around utility. If you were more dragstrip oriented I'd go for a PE1820, if you're more auto-x oriented I'd go for a VF23.

I'm REALLY happy with my VF30 - except for the slight wisps of smoke at idle I'm getting, so I'm replacing it with another (gently used) IHI VF offering.

EJ's do NOT take to big turbos as well as in-line 4's do. The long, unequal length exhaust piping makes it hard for the <2000cc motor to spool a big turbine.
