I have a brand new 2012 WRX that's already been broken in. I am planning to keep this car as long as possible. It will be my dd! I occasionally shift my car right before redline around 6k - 6k5 rpm just for fun but not usual! Will this be bad for my engine or tranny? I mean compare to drive it like a granny! I heard some ppl said it's good for the engine to breath and some said no! I am feeling very bad and afraid something would break soon after I shift it at so high rpm!!! Thank you guys

Why do you rev it?

It's good for the car to every once in a while to be driven up to redline. It will help with carbon build up.

Revving on colds starts is a definite no no! Make sure the engine is warm at least.

The only time you need to rev it is when you are driving.

Oh I see you are talking about break in, and you drive it to redline......The way I read it is right before 6k you push in the clutch or somthing.

On break in there are so many different ways. I would baby it a bit to 500 miles or so just for the clutch, then drive that ***** like ya stole.....LOL

I do know that engine braking during break in is a good thing to help seat the rings.....

Whats the point in shifting at 6k rpm though, especially for a daily driven car?

Well for one, the WRX is a fun fast daily driver car. Every once in a while I like to get on mine and shift quickly upon entering the freeway. I'm sure everyone who has ever owned a WRX gets on it once in a while. You drive an outback so I don't think you have the power level that we do (no offense).

just keep your oils changed and you'll be fine just don't drop the clutch like a mad man trying to peel out on an awd. haha. you clutch may go faster than typically if you do it often.

I sometimes shift at 6...

Usually at 4, but sometimes 6.

I have also hit the limiter a couple of times.

But seriously, even with NA, there's some good power from 3.5-6. I think most NA owners are just Nancys and wouldn't dare rev past 3.

Thank you guys it's very tempting to shift at high rpm with the WRX.
