Car Info: Broken ass stock '02 WRX

whistling noise w/ '992.5rs

I have a buddy that has a '99 2.5 rs that whenever you push the accelerator down (like getting on the freeway or accelerating fast, not just pushing it down slightly) you hear a high pitched whistling,

anybody have any idea what it may be? exhaust leak?

oh yeah teh car is completly stock

could be a deffective gasket

I have the same sound on my car, and I think it's an exhaust leak somewhere from the cat back. I put some Borla headers on with new gasket at the cat, and it still was whistling...So it can only be from there back. It's only when I really get on it that I can hear , at about 4500rpm it's the loudest.

thats exactly the problem my friend has, at around 4500... hmm hes been considering a new exhaust... so maybe the sound will go away when he gets it..

Tell him to get a cat back and tell me if it worked. I can't afford it until a couple of months from now.

i think i had the same problem but it went away wen i put a new exahust in, but i remember i used to hear it with my stock muffler.

I have the same exact problem I already have a cat back exhaust on my RS so it may be a bad gasket huh?! what do you guys think?

my friend had his car looked at by a shop (the car dealership he works at so it was a quick free thing) they said it is possibly something in the exhaust blocking it...(i dont know how i feel about this assesment, it doesnt sound right)
