Vibrations
My 98' 2.5 RS makes a vibrating noise when the throttle increses. It occurs at 2500 rpm and it sounds like the heat shield against the exhaust but im not sure. Has anyone had the same problem and if so what was your solution to fix it. The sound doesnt the way the car revs up it just is embarrasing. Please help.
Also I am new to i-club.com and was wondering what web sites were the best for mods for the EJ25 . Thanks again.

i had that problem too when i did some exhaust work. just take all the heat sheilds off. that will not create a problem! after i did that the noise was gone and when my dealership saw that they said they take a lot of them off because they tend to rattle.

Bastard dealers! Mine was rattling awhile back and when I took it to the dealer they tried to charge me 450 for a whole new Y-pipe saying that the heatshields can't be replaced. So I had it welded for 20 bucks.

Y-pipe rattle
If it is under warranty (not likely) you can get a new y-pipe installed free.
If it is out of warranty, you can get it welded cheap at a private shop, or there is an Okie fix....the dealer has some sort of shim like things that you can stuff in there between the shield and the pipe.
JB weld squirted in there helps also.
Or you can tighten 2 hose clamps around the shield.
However, all of the Okie fixes transmit more heat.
It is usually the left side heat shield on the y-pipe. I wrote to Subaru's main office, and they have no record of any such ongoing problems. (right!)
When the dealer replaces a y-pipe under warranty, they charge Subaru about $700.
