I have a random tech cat. Cobb tuning just came out with a one piece Header/Cat combo that bolts up to the catback. Much more power than either cat will offer, and cheaper than buying headers and a cat. Cobbtuning.com. Plus my random tech cat cost me extra money because the O2 sensor wire had to be stretched to fit into the bung, and a lot of people have problems with Check Engine lights (not me though).

FYI- the nice header package from Cobb (COATED header and high flow cat section) is going to cost you about $1000 shipped and you WILL have to cut one of your stock splash guards to make them fit without melting something. Take it FWIW but I'm sticking with the old school exhaust bits, to match my old school ride...

ive heard from someone who tested their car with a friends(friend had the random tech cat) they both have the same mods except for that cat and the friends car felt much slower than his

Yes, any "high flow" cat will feel much more responsive than the restrictive stock system.
I bet a shop could easily make the random cat fit a legacy. It is possible that it has the same mounting bracket and wouldn't require modification but I haven't been under many Legacies. But yes you could get it to work.
