providing more air for cold air?
has anyone tried making a ram air tunnel from the front bumper
to the r/f fender to help provide more air for the cold air intake.
this mod would have to keep the fog lights of course.has anyone tried this? i would think this would help the hp gains a little better.especially if you could seal up that fender to pressurize it.
any ideas?

I suppose you could just use dryer ducting to help route air up to the air box. Would the gains be worth the effort though? It would probably work better if you removed the one fog light so that you could gather the air from the fog light hole. It would depend on if you were willing to give up the fog light however.

I suppose it's possible to do that. I'd be concerned about doing it in a MAP-based car though. The ecu would have no way of knowing that it was getting extra air, until it started to knock. Then again, it might work. You could try running a duct down to where the STi brake ducts would have been hooked up (if you have a '98-'01 with the V5 front clip) and see what happens.

have an 03 rs. thought if i didnt go ram air i would just run some duct work down the fender anyways to get as cool as possible,
ie away from the motor and the heat
i believ you still get some air flow from that side slit that is to the
right of the foglight.

with ram air pressure won't start to be generated till around 120 MPH and even then it's minimal. One guy ran duct work to his bumper below the fog lamp (older RS) went through a puddle and hydrolocked the motor.

I'm confused, how am I being an ***? I was trying to help you avoid damaging your motor by sucking up water. I've been around the lists long enough to have read this happening to a few people. And I've seen calculations by others that show you have to go pretty fast to even generate a half to 1 psi of pressure. Especially with a very small opening like a 4-5"
I've done temp testing under the hood an just grabbing air from the fender will be sufficient. It's not any colder out by the fog lamp.

Even though this has gotten a little off topic it's funny i came across this post.
A few days ago my friend gave up a great looking WRX with a whole rack of real nice mods for a new 1.8t GTI 20th anniversary edition.(Really nice car btw, but so slow compared to his rex) Point being he salvaged a few things for me before he sold it and one of the was this "Turbo-X" vacum flower thing that bolts down basicly in the front, right underneath the hood. It lays kinda where your hood stand would lie when its down. It delivers air into the fender. I have a COBB intake and was wondering if i would have any gains from this at all. I don't really see how it would gather and extra air. You think it might even deliever hotter air?
I might just throw it on too look cool if nothing else.
Just curious what you all would think....
