he may just be trying to scare you if you cange your intake with no engine work the engine was used to a certian range now you are changing it, it can have bad effects usually only on older engines though..... i know my 94 legacy would not benifit much from an intake loke at the stock air flow and the cold airs air flow

On a MY2000 RS, a Cobb won't cause any problems. However, if you're sill in your warranty mileage, they can claim that it caused any major internal engine damage related to detonation. It's bogus, but legally it would standup.

It's ok to have an intake (CAI or not) on a Maf based car. What's important is the diameter of the intake. 3" intake piping diameter on a maf based 2.5RS causes a lean condition above 5300rpm. Note I say maf based 2.5RSs. Map based 2.5RSs seem to not have this problem for the most part. I dunno if it's the flow/velocity of the intake aire, sound resonance from the cylinders, a combo or that some intakes aren't as stable as the stock one (Short ram intakes tend to 'shake' the mafs to death some believe) but if you go the intake route, also be sure that it's secured to the engine not the engine bay/wall. You want to intake to move with the engine and not fight against.
Get an intake with piping diameter that doesn't go above 2.75". 2.5" is ok and doesn't cause a lean condition at high rpms. Also be sure it's secure and everything should be fine.

from what I hear (and log) subarus run rich at high RPM's anyway. I can't vouch for a turbo, but I see no reason why allowing more air to enter the engine easier is a bad thing. Though you -probibaly- won't see much in the way of horsepower without other mods.
