if its shorter shifts you want I know OBX sports and I think Kartboy as well make short shifters you can use in the EJ22 (I have the OBX sports and am very pleased) but you will still have slop, try replacing the shifter bearings, check out www.kartboy.com

if your stock shifter is the same as my '93 L, then you need a different style of lever than kartboy, cobb, etc. The bracket on the linkage and lever is reversed after '97 or so. SPO motorsports carries them, I believe, for around $120- I love mine and it really did help with the slop.
As for bushings, all that stuff is the exact same on all imprezas up to '02 as far as I know, exhaust hangers too Probly even after that as far as under the car goes. I got the cobb ones and combined with the short throw, there is really not much slop at all.
Getting a hardened tranny mount will really help too. Kostamojen fabricated a custom one, since the Group N ones won't bolt up without modification to our older cars, with some type of 3M window sealant in a stock mount and he said it made a world of difference. Our mounts are like half hollow and very soft- I could bent mine in my hands while I had it out Oh well you can check it out here- http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...0&pagenumber=2
Good luck, it will work.

You are welcome, anything to help make somebody's car perform better...
I think any hardened bushing will make a difference in the feel. Kartboy offers them in black to keep the stock look. I got mine from Cobb Tuning- you can just order the bushings from them without all the package deals, theirs are blue. Just give them a call and they'll be happy to help you. I don't know if anyone else makes hardened linkage bushings for our cars or not...If you have the $$ you could get the entire STi linkage kit- combined with STS lever you got it's supposed to be only 1" between gears That would rock.

If you get the newer linkage, you have to find the joint that attaches to the transmition rod as well. Its not actually part of any linkage kit.
There is another option. You can have the stock lever re-welded a little farther away from the ball joint. It will make the shifts significantly shorter and more crisp, but definatly get a bushing too to supliment it. Its also the cheapest option by far, as any shop can re-weld for for cheap (like $20)

The linkage kit is on www.subaruwrxparts.com. I did not know that you had to source that extra rod for the kit however. I'm sure you would not have too hard a time finding the piece you need at a junkyard or something. Good luck.
