Headers Thread/NewB
Hi all,
I just joined the group, and I have a question about the headers. I have been trying to find out what the difference is between stainless and ceramic coated headers.
What are the advantages /disadvantages of ceramic coated headers?
What headers would you recommend for a 00 Legacy L Wagon 2.5L?
thank you,
Mark

From my experience, maybe someone could add to it..
Stainless- Gets very hot. Not much sound dampening. Pure looks only.
Ceramic coated- Stays VERY cool. Also gives alot of sound dampening for a very nice sounding "Tuned" exaust.
Big Difference IMHO. Go with the Ceramic, it costs more but is worth the heat and sound benifits.

Stainless is the type of metal used. Usually won't ever rust.
Ceramic coating is a type of coating that keeps the exhaust temperature inside the headers instead of having them disperse under the hood. It also increases exhaust pressure. You could also consider some Heat Wrap, which basically does the same thing.
Many people love it and many people hate it. I for one, like it.

I come from a pretty humid region. (Montreal/Quebec/Canada)
A couple of friends wrapped their stock WRX manifold to keep the under hood temperature cooler.
The manifold gets so hot that the wrapping gets dry every time you drive the car.
From their experience it does not accelerate corosion.

but what about when the car is parked? maybe i'm basing my experiences on the wrong example here... i used to have a gsxr with ss yoshimura headers that i wrapped, but i had no covered parking and only had a bike cover under a porch and it rotted it right out
btw... i live in vancouver. when it rains here, well.... can u swim?

Hopefully by the end of this week I'll have my brullen headers on, which are wrapped. They will stay on during the winter time and hopefully they wont retain too much water/moisture. I also have a primitive skidplate which will hopefully protect it from alot of the snow.
