FOUND PROBLEM! It's VERY BAD many pics, help
so sure enough my problem was the timing.
( original thread: https://www.i-club.com/forums/engine-power-non-turbo-all-non-turbo-imprezas-61/help-complete-loss-power-155634/)
BUT it wasnt what I expected.
First bad sign: The crank pulley bolt and the pulley came off surprisingly easy.
2nd: I look at the back of my pulley and see this:
3rd: I remove the covers and see this!!:
The F'n key completely messed up. so the problem was that the movement carved out a part of the crank pulley gear/sprocket and there was a bunch of play on it. so my timing was way off!
BUT wait take a look at the after math:
WHAT CAN I DO???? Do I have to replace the entire crank? Do I get creative with JB weld??

JB weld does not hold very well under extreme pressure. I haven't found JB weld to be good for much. By the looks of it, I can't see why you couldn't have a fill weld done and carve out your keyway with a die grinder. Other wise you might as well look into a new short block. Same price more or less.
