exhaust help/opinion! please respond fast
Hey here is my dilemma, my car started sounding like a drag car hehe louder than usual. I already have the borla cat back system on my car, i went and took the heat shielding off of the rear catalytic converter and it turns out that was the only thing holding my exhaust together. The weld broke just before the rear catalytic converter. Since i have to do exhaust work anyways i'm gonna go ahead and get the borla headers. Is that pipe between the headers and the cat back system all one piece? it looks like it is. It has 2 catalytic converters and 2 o2 sensors on it. What is that peice called and do they make upgraded parts for it like hi flow cats and stuff i have been looking for them and haven't been able to find them. please respond, this is probably the reason i have a check engine light on for the catalytic converter too so i'll be able to fix my car totally. i'm expecting about 1000$ or so for the headers and the pipe between the headers and the cat back system. And whatever peice i get it has to have a plug in for the two O2 sensors correct?? please respond asap so my car will stop sounding like a drag car. thank u!!!!!!!!!!! ohh yeah i have a 2000 2.5 RS impreza

For $1000 you can get equal length headers like Brullen and TWE, or better yet you could just get MRT headers and their high-flow catpipe for much less. $800 from Langston Subaru.

welll i went to mrt and langstons homepage and i'm not a gear head or anything so those websites really confused me i guess i'll make some phone calls....hope i don't sound too stupid but how different can headers be from company to company?? do you recommend a company?? i thought the borla headers were pretty reputable...nopi's site has them for 280$ so i only have to worry about the cat pipe but i'm open to get anything that is a better bang for the buck educate me hehe=) and i am going to install everything myself so keep that in mind too

Borlas sound really cool, but they aren't good for power. I have a set right now with a custom catback. The MRT headers are generally considered to make the most power (19-21 whp from the MRT header-back alone) but the TWE and Brullen headers are also very good. The MRT has a different shape though, which requires you to go with their high-flow at pipe or get a custom done. MRT's setup is also relatively cheap, which is why I recommend it a lot. Cheap and fast.
Here is the link for ordering the complete MRT header-back kit for $790 plus shipping. It will fit any EJ25 Impreza, but '02+ will need slight modification to one exhaust hanger.

i have borla right now too, they made decent power for the price. but they crack, it is a known fact, i just took mine off to get them sent back to borla for a new set since they didnt want me to get them welded. just keep that in mind. i am not trying to divert borlas sales to MRT or anything, but to me its not worth it. the pluses:decent power(not as much as others, but still noticable), great sound, excellent price

MRT does not terminate at the factory location. You will need MRT pieces to the axle back. TWE is on back order until at least the end of August, so if need them now you are SOL. Brullens have never been my favorite, but they are OK and run around $1200 for a full exhaust.
I'll be getting Borlas and a Random Tech cat soon. So obviously I think it's an OK choice. Borlas are only $270 from Summit, the Random Tech is $338 shipped from Nino's.
