Engine/Power - non turbo (All non turbo Imprezas) Who needs a turbo when you have 2500cc? Cams, intakes, exhausts, etc. The 2.2L and 1.8L Subies are cool too.

DIY Filter Adapter

this is a how to for making an adapter plate that will allow you to remove you stock air box and put in a conical filter that will mate with eyou MAF sensor.

Tools:
Flat blade screw driver
Wrench (8 or 10mm not sure which)
RTV (room temperature vulcanizing compound)
Jig Saw
Welder
Ban Saw (very useful but not a neccesity)
Drill
Sharpie

Materials:
carboard (8"x8")
Steel plate (thick enough to weld too 8"x8")
3" of 3" steel pipe (small propane tank works great(EMPTY))
Conical filter (3" inlet)
hose clamp 3" diameter

procedure:
1.) remove your airbox. the top piece is just clmap on by for clips. this top piece is connected to the MAF sensor by 4 bolts. remove these and hang on to them.
2.) the bottom section of the air box is held in by a set of bolts, just pull these out and the box will pull out.
3.) take you cardboard and hold it up to the MAF sensor. use the sharpie and trace around the MAF sensor. make sure to mark the bolt holes on your new template. also mark on the carboard the location and size of the opening on the MAF sensor.
4.) use your cardboard to transfer the outline, bolt holes, and center hole to your piece of steel.
5.) drill out your center hole and the bolt pattern, make sure the bolts fit through you holes before you suceed.
6.) cut the adapter out of the steel plate. you drilled the holes before you cut it out because it is easier to hold onto.
7.) take you pipe and weld it to the adapter around your 3" center hole. if you are using the propane tank. first make sure it is empty. then mark out a 3" long piece somewhere in teh middle of the tank. use a saw to cut out this section. if you have an automated/gravity fed saw this is preferable because then you dont have to be near the tank incase there was soemthign let in it (that could be bad)
8.) place some RTV around the weld to ensure that it is air tight.
9.) bolt your new adapter plate to your MAF sensor
10.) attach your filter via the clamp and you are set!
11.) turn on teh car and go for a spin.

notes:
you will not here a noticeable difference until you hit 3k rpms.

DO NOT oil your filter unless you know for sure you are suppose to. if you do oil it then you will mess up your MAF and MAP sensor. just FYI MAF sensor = $350, MAP sensor = $255.40. dotn ask why i know this.

your stock intake arm will want to flap around the engine bay. so you can zip tie it to a open bracket.

Have fun
