Engine/Power - non turbo (All non turbo Imprezas) Who needs a turbo when you have 2500cc? Cams, intakes, exhausts, etc. The 2.2L and 1.8L Subies are cool too.

Cheap intake for 04 RS

I got an itch after seeing how the stock intake was so convaluted and how easy it came off. So here's some pics of what I did, and yes I know it's not the prettiest thing, but don't forget it is Cold air-intake by Home Cheapo . Anyway It makes me happy because without the stock airbox the engine really growls now and it only cost me about 25 bucks.

Thumbs up

Excellent! Can you post a list of exact lengths and sizes of pipe, and which bends you used?

OK, coming out from the throttle body it uses a Fernco 3" to 2" reducer, then uses approx 3 1/2" of 3" pipe to connect the Fernco to the 60 degree elbow, from that point I used an 11 3/8" piece of pipe to connect the other side of the 60 deg. with the 22.5 deg elbow (which also might be called a 1/16 elbow at H.D.) at the inner fender wall. It just so happens that there is a 3 1/2" round hole in the inner fender wall (very convenient ) to poke the intake through. Lastly I used a 2 1/2" piece of pipe to come out of the 22.5 elbow and go into the fender well. I then used a little 1" "L" bracket to hold the pipe in the fender end so it doesn't rattle. I used a 1" screw going into the pipe and a 1/2" screw going into an existing hole in the inner fender wall. The screws are stainless and use fiber lock nuts. All pipe used was the 3" ABS instead of PVC for two reasons, one is the ABS is much lighter then PVC and Two it's black and I like that color better.

where did you get the abs plastic at, i tried to do the same with pvc, and a bender, but i still have not been able to get a hold of one at work, i was going to use 3'' all the way around, and put a k&n filter on the end inside the fender wall, good job though what did you use to glue it togheter?

I got the ABS at Home Depot, it's in the same isle as the PVC. Also it has all it's own fittings which is nice because ABS elbows come in 22.5(1/16), 45, 60, and 90 degrees which means you can get out of heating it to bend it. It has it's own glue as well. I also used 3" until I got to the airbox and then had to use a fernco reducer to bring it down to 2" going into the airbox which I'd rather not have done, but it still works well and the growl from the motor in very pronounced now especially in 3rd and 4th from 3-4000 RPM. Thanks for the interest

and three... I really like the color and have received alot of compliments on it, plus I think it'll go well with either gold or yellow wheels . Anyway, hope these pics help.
