Can't buy purolator oil filter.. what else should I get?
I want to change the oil in my 2004 2.5TS today (I'm at 8000, 500 over what I should be), but I can't find anyone who sells a purolator oil filter near me.
The closest Subaru dealer is 50 miles away so I can't get an OEM. Everyone around here drives Fords and Chevies, yes I live in hicville.
What is a good oil filter to use instead of Purolator or the OEM?

get the fram oil filter, the one that is grey, for tough driving and 4x4, it is the next one up from the bottm.
do not get the one that is black, it is like ten bucks and has some teflon in it, or the x2 one that says you can go for like 7500 miles on it, stickl to the every 3750 miles per change, and get that tough guard filter tg 3595

what oil fiter to use for Synthetic Oil???
I'm switching to Synthetic oil this weekend once I get fumoto drain plug. I'm using MOBIL ONE since everyone says it's good stuff. (I'll just have to see for myself) SO the question is, what OIL Filter do I use.. Since Synthetic oil is to be changed between 5k-7k miles, OEM filters and the cheap filters probably won't do they're job after 3,5k miles. I know FRAM has a new X2 oil filter that lasts up to 7k miles. It's like 9 bucks @ Walmart. Autozone has a K&N Oil filter for like 12 bucks. Any suggestions would be helpful before and I go and buy the wrong filter...

you can check the research that I did

But, the one thing that might be a problem is that any filter that isnt a purolotar is going to only to thread 2-3 times before its on tight
If that makes you nervous, then you can do what me and subysal did and had a machinist make a new oil filter nipple that is 3/8" longer so that you can use any after market filter without any issues
Currently i use a mobile 1 filter and with the new nipple, it threads on just fine

Thanks all for the advice. Against my better judgement I bought a fram filter for this time (it was their better filter that lasts for 7000 miles).
At the next oil change (4500 miles from now I believe according to the owners manual) I'll use a Subaru filter that I have on order from subaruparts.com.
