Engine/Power - non turbo (All non turbo Imprezas) Who needs a turbo when you have 2500cc? Cams, intakes, exhausts, etc. The 2.2L and 1.8L Subies are cool too.

Can someone explain

Can someone explain

A buddy of mine is looking to get a new car. and here is the question he asked me

What is the diffrence between the 2004 RS and the 2006 base model since they both have a 2.5?

This was not a bodystyle quetion cause that is obvious

Mechanically a reliabilty wise.

TIA

I had an 05 as well as my current 06, the 06 feels alot more ridged, I've also heard (which means its unconformed second hand info) that the 06's have a stronger tranny.

So the main points are diffrence in suspension setup, and Hp which usually goes up every year.

By rigid do you mean better control or harder to control??

im not 2 sure abut the tranny thing but my car takes tanabe STI springs and the cusco type 1 frame brace along with whitelines alighment bolts so having all that sed im pretty sure the suspention is the same as the older wrx or STIs ( 04-05 ) i've herdthat the older RS's can take the same parts 2

Not quite. An '05 has 168 HP and the '06 (with active lift) has 173 HP for a grand total of 5 HP. The '07 is the same output but lower number due to SAE rated HP.

don't forget the most important aspect:

04' 2.5RS - UN-equal length headers = Boxer rumble

06'- 07' 2.5i - Equal length headers = No boxer rumble

More ridged in a good way, with the 05 i could feel the body roll ever so slightly on some turns, with the 06 i didn't notice it at all.
Personally the only reason i'd consider an older model is for the sports package interrior, I really miss the momo leather wheel my 05 had, but i love the 06 exterior styling so much better then the 05
