backfire?
Its a 2.2L Impreza with no major mods, only lighten pulley and intake. A few time when the rpm was kept up to about 5000rpm for awhile and I release the gas pedal the muffler make a loud POP sound, its that backfire??
Why would my car backfire? The car is pretty new, only 30k.
Something wrong with the car?

BOOM!!
My 98 RS has a full block back exhaust and backfires quite impressively occasionally on throttle lift. From what I've heard (in keeping with previous statements) this is not at all uncommon. I did an ECU reset since I had all that installed and it is now nowhere near as bad as it was. I've got the scooby racing tq chip, which unfortunately doesn't help to lean out those lower RPM's much. Oh well! Fun scaring Mustangs anyway...

It could be from the intake. I never had it happen till I put an intake on. I don't think it's really a bad thing, I've got 70k on mine and its been backfiring for about 50k now with no problems. It doesn't backfire all the time just like 2 times every oil change or so.

My car has had these little pops for as long as I've owned it. Nothing like my dads old truck that made people duck after it backfired, but its still fun. I think that it's just a characteristic of the EJ engine.

ya I remember my car popped from the day I bought it, completely stock from the previous owner. The backfires just kept getting louder and louder with different mods I put on. Now with no cats, whoa damn, its loud.
