98 RS Gas Milage
I have a 98 RS and the milage seems to be very low. I have half a tank left, and the car only went 120 miles. So on a full tank, this would mean 240. I usually get 270 per tank but lately I have been getting low milage. This is also with non spirited driving, I try to keep the rpm below 3000 during this period to see how my gas milage is. I heard that it could be that my MAF went bad, but i'm not sure? Oh yeah, I tried to do a search on gas milage, but all I found were for WRX's.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Try to check gas mileage using close to the entire tankful of gas. I don't know about the '98 cars, but the later Imprezas have a gas gauge that does not read in a linear fashion. In other words, the halfway mark on the gauge may not actually mean that the tank is at half-capacity.
The best way to check mileage is by filling up the tank until the nozzle shuts off automatically without topping off. Note odometer reading or reset the trip odometer. At the next fillup again let the nozzle shut off the pump. Divide the miles travelled since last fillup by the number of gallons needed to fill the tank.

If your car still runs good, I doubt your MAF is bad. I was getting some pretty bad mileage too and I realized I hadn't changed my spark plugs in a long time. After doing that, I was getting way better mileage- at least 8-12 more city MPG than before. Changing oil and cleaning/replacing air filteralso make a pretty good difference if you keep it regular. I also hear repalcing the PCV valve regularly can also help keep your car running smooth, which would help keep the engine's efficiency up = better milege too.
