head gasket leak perhaps....all depends on where exactly its is leaking....either way running it at 5k isnt healthy for the ol girl....seriously about the 150 plus hp......your sol....the L is a base model....not meant to be anything more......take it from me...i own one

SOL for a person with a 1.8L not SOL for a person that owns an 2.2L stock the 98l comes with 137 thats 13hp away from 150. thats not a huge amount.Even though these cars are base models if you know how to drive they are a very fun car and with the right amount of mods they can outhandle almost anything thrown at it the L is nothing to underestimate. Yea its not rs but it still has potential. Not to mention the body style is sexay. Well atleast in the newer ones.from 97 on

Okay, just got back from a road trip. What kind of code reader do I need to see what the ECU is saying? OBDI? Where do I connect it (is it the orange plug under my dash)? My car is getting crappy mileage now and super ****ty performance. Anyone know of a good and cheap subie mechanic in the Denver area; school starts soon and I'm not going to have much time to work on it. Thanks for all the suggestions.

I have a 1.8L it has a little over 136K miles.. I hit the rev limiter at least once a day with it.

I'm wondering when my Timing belt needs to be replaced.. No saying when it was last done..

but I will be working on the car 2 weeks from now, going to put it up on the ramps and tackle some much needed jobs.

The shop's response? A tidy list of parts I should replace and the comment 'the timing belt, tensioner and water pump should be changed every 90k on that car.'

Wow.. I would run FAR away from that dealership.. I could change the belt myself, I just fear myself turning the Cam and getting the timing off. I do know they have marks for the timing.. but I'm trying to save money.
