im new to the subaru market and stumbled onto the 98-2001 impreza RS and fell in love with it. i really love the 98-2001 impreza body style and in the market for one. i was doing some research on turbo and this cars potential and stumbled onto this forum with lots of great info. from reading the sticky on 2.5 turboing it seem like its gennerally not a good idea to turbo charge a 2.5 rs due to compression, reliablity issues and cost. cost issue would be its much cheaper to get a wrx and you dont have to worry too much about the engine blowing on you.. but im not to big of a fan of the 2002-2003 front end and cant afford to spend more than 15kmax on a car.

it seem like i can get a rs with high miles for cheap. maybe do a jspec engine swap from a 98-2001 wrx?(just a guess really dont want to do any chaise modifications). i used the search function and just like must forum searches i get alot of rift raft that doesnt answer my question. it seems like alot of poeple make reffrance to doing a swap but no one really talks about it.. or maybe im just not looking in the right places.

if someone could direct me somewhere with good reliable unbias information i would appreciat it.

or just answer my Question. should i stick to a jspec engine? im guessing the jspec 98-2001 wrx is running essentually the same chaise as the american 98-2001 rs. so an engine swap would require no modifications for a clean swap. or could i get a relitively cheap 2001-2003 wrx engine and swap with no real mods. iv seen jspec wrx engines for pretty cheap 2000-3000usd. thats about the cost of turbo system. i do have mechanical skills and have everthing i would need to do an engine swap - an engine hoist.(can just rent one) thanks ahead of time for any help.
