engine rebuild?
hey guys, im starting a new project soon. Im rebuilding my 2.5rs engine to be able to run around 300-500 hp or around there anyways. I was wondering what exactly do i have to change on the engine? lets say i wanted it to match the sti or even pass it. I was also thinking of going with the GT30R turbocharger, but if there are other suggestions let me know, it would help me out alot. I just drove the 350z and it hurts to know is faster than my scooby... soo i need help!
thank you.
thank you.

Unfortunately, to get that much power even measured at the crankshaft, you are starting with the wrong engine. You need a low-compression turbo engine with forged internals.
The easiest way for an RS to match the straightline performance of an STi is to swap in a complete STi drivetrain and electronics. This won't be cheap. Have you considered a budget for your buildup?

You could tear it down and buy complete sti blocks for it and then turbo and intercool the hell out of the thing. I would suggest getting stronger gears for your tranny to match the power. Also look at other "weak" points of the drive train.

Wingless Wonder is correct, you cannot get that much power from the RS motor without blowing it up. You should use one of the old "closed deck" blocks as your starting point, then you can go crazy. You might be able to get one from one of the contacts in a magazine such as Subie Sport, or a used rally engine that you can rebuild. I see that IA Performance has a pop-up on this website, maybe they have something.
Don't forget your drive train, either. That much power will shread your tranny and differentials, so you will have to upgrade them as well.
I would love to hear the stories of embarassed 350Z owners when you get it done.

Ofcourse if you have money to waste, you could skip the STi, block and go for a complete "race" block from somewhere like cobb, it would allow you to go beyond the normal STi engine, but from my quick looks awhile back, it would cost about 1.5 to 2 times as much as a swap and you still need to work on the drivetrain to make it capable of handeling he power
