why did it do that? Anyone with TBE getting fuel cut?

i just installed a 3 inch turbo back. very nice. well, i reset the cpu with the negative off for about 15 mins or so. then i took it for a hard drive. i took it to the freeway. accelerated 1st , 2nd , 3rd but then it hit 5k and the gas cut off and a cel turn on with the cruise flashing. i can figure out what is going on? anyone have ideas or have had this happen to them? i am hoping in the morning it will go away.

WOW!! this Q has poped up a lot lately but just worded different > But to answer your question you hit what is called boost cut. You hit a certain amount of boost w/ that all to free flowing exhaust. Your car is not use to this and never will unless you port the wastegate or replace the turbo w/ something else. If anyone else knows of any other solutions to boost cut let this guy know

1 solution that i know of so that you keep your TBE and so you don't have to buy another turbo is to send your turbo here-->http://www.deadboltspeed.com/ Jerry can Port the wastedgate for 95 bucks or you can Port & Polish the entire exhaust side of the turbo and gain top end and quicker spool up for 195. 195 includes porting the wastegate & Porting & Polishing of the turbo. But if your one of those that your STi is your daily driver your either going to have to find another turbo ( if its a VF have the Waste gate ported) or put your stock downpipe back on. Luckly a friend of mine had a VF30 to borrow from me that i had sent to deadbolt for P&P. i'll post some pics of a turbo b4 deadbolt and after.

We just have so many members that put TBE exhaust on there STi's that don't know the effects a TBE will have.

Is TBE bad? Or is just the turbo back exhaust in general?

There is nothing wrong w/ the TBE its just the turbo. I think its the design the waste gate other than that im not actually sure

Yes, its the wastegate design in the VF39, it sucks! There are quite a few people having satisfactory results porting the VF39 wastegate to curtail boost creep.

i was told that a boost controler can help. he said that what is happening is that i now am boosting 16.5+ so at 16.6 the cars ecu will do a fuel cut defender on the car and that no matter what rpm it will shut the car down. i also notice that when the cel comes up it does not go out till i take out the negative pole.. is this really bad for the car to continue going. also does a boost controller reduce psi on the turbo or is it supposed to let you gain psi instead? aslo i was told that a reflash is suposed to clear this who thing up too, true?

I think the only boost controller i seen kinda fix this problem was one that you can controll the gain ie: Blitz SBC-ID. That cost 500 bucks but its a great tool. I also don't think that hitting fuel cut a bunch is bad, the reason why the car does this is to protect it self from over boosting. With a boost controller you can set it as low as the wastegate is set to. I'm not sure of a reflash could cure this problem, but if you ask a professional that does reflashes for subaru's im sure you could get a straight answer from them on that.
