what mods in order for STi to get rid of the boxer sound?
saw a WRB STi driver the other day over in San Marino/Santa Anita/El Monte area.
awesomeness who ever you are! one intimidating idle.
had the mod/upgrade where that the boxer sound is eliminated. what mod was that again?

Car Info: 02 STi
headers will change it. flatten the sound out a bit. I think it makes it sound better. Someone said that my 02 wrx sound more like a WRC car now, with the headers on.

Equal length headers will def. smooth out the inherent 'lumpiness' of the boxer sound. Equal length headers like the Maxim Works($1000+) and the GPMoto($600+/-) will help to disguise the boxer rumble.
I believe here are some soundclips of a WRX utilizing equal length headers. As you can see/hear, it's not as lumpy..only when it idles is when you hear the boxer rumble.
soundlip 1
soundclip 2
enjoy!

the STi i saw had a fully modded exhaust. just that rumble was not present when the car accelerated.
the idle itself sounded intimidating.

As people have said. Any (REAL) equal length header will do that.
The GTspec v.III prototypes are going to have a wicked sound. They're the same type of header as the Stone racing header.

Man, that's a lot of money just for a nice exhaust note - good thing it helps power a little too, huh?

I'm still waiting for the header shootout that supposedly will be published soon.
Back on topic: I like the unique sound of WRX and STi. I've heard a couple headers that brought the pitch up too much. One actually made the sound of a Civic. I krindged when I heard it. Without a tune, those particular headers added nice midrange according to the owner.
