Question UP-pipe / downpipe

If you get a bigger up-pipe arent you going to need a bigger downpipe?

will just the downpipe make the stock 04 sti exhaust louder??

if im not mistaken sti's already come with catless uppipes , and usually u would want to get both up/downpipes to have an even exhaust flow, and buying a aftermarket downpipe (unless you buy one with a cat) removes all the cats so yea your car would be louder, but if u get aftermarket exhaust then it will sound like a really scoob.

STi has a catless uppipe. You don't need to replace it.

A new downpipe will make the car louder, especially when combined with a removed intake silencer. The OEM downpipe has insulation and shielding that muffles the sound. Since you have an STi you'll have to do some research because aftermarket downpipes can cause boost creep.

what are you trying to do?

If you just want it to sound cool, just get a catback system.

If you want to make more power, and don't mind more noise, get a full turboback exhaust system.

But remember you'll have to port your turbo's wastegate, or get a bigger turbo!

I wouldn't get that kit unless you've seen results, and the DP would have to be a great design.

I'd prefer to put my own package together.

Also, this setup really needs an FMIC...

I will be installing the Vishnu Signature TBE, a programmable water injection system, having it flashed by a friend, and I'm also getting the Delta Dash system.

Should be good for well over 300hp at the wheels

Not always true..Mach5wrx in the Hawaii forum has had the stock dp, PDE dp and the new STI Cobb dp and about four different exhaust and has never had boost creep there seem to be certain conditions and DP's that cause it...But there are others in Hawaii that were getting it with just a DP and had there turbo PnP...I would like to know exactly why some experience and some do not.

There aren't any places that I've ever heard of the one guy I know of who had his done sent it to DeadBolt but Dallas PnP is cheaper you'll have to do a search and PM them and hope they respond there are f ew people on I-Club that have used Dallas and liked what they got. Why do you need to get it PnP???

KewlDan,..

For Port and polish,..if you know what you want,..you can go to PBs or Pele Bug on Koapaka street by Alamo Rental in Nimitz,..I think that Teds Machine shop maybe too busy and possibly Snyders too,..They did my Evo III ex. manifold and ported the nickle composition (which is damn hard element) after I gave up with my dremel and many sanding drums ( a compressor would be faster though for most),..It came out awesome,.. paid $120 due to difficulty of porting and supplies to do so,..

Depending on what you want ported and if you know what you want EXACTLY and can tell them what you want,..it can be done, but dont expect it for a week or more,..We all suffer in the 808 local,... lol

It's to the point now where I'm going to check with the tuner I eventually use before I decide to port the WG or not...

hey dan,
try and meet up with dan(mach5wrx) if i'm not mistaken, he said he ran the pde DP with stock STi exaust(for a short period of time). that was something i wanted to do(when he sold his dp..SilverSatin bought it... )

a good way to gauge what you want is to ride in peoples cars. i love the sound of b&b exaust and even the borla hush is nice too. decide on what kind of volume you want to tolerate.

oh, and in terms of local shops... i've done business with teds machine shop several years ago. i used them for my intake on my mustang. good work. you just have to be a little patient cuz he ususally has a lot of jobs.

in terms of cats... yeah its technically illegal, but no one checks. you figure a lot of cops with POV's have no cats in their mustangs and camaros...
