Stock pistons

Are the stock pistons on the 04 Sti forged or they just cast iron?

They are hypereutectic (I think I spelled that right) cast pistons. Stronger and lighter than normal cast pistons, and cheaper than forged pistons. They are also less prone to cold start "piston slap" than true forged pistons.

The pistons are aluminum, not iron.

To be honest, you need to go have a long talk with a local tuner who has experiene with STis. I saw that you're running a boost controller + eManage, and while that's not a bad setup, it makes it VERY easy to break your motor even without pushing the limits of boost and power. Not only that, a stock motor STi will be most efficient at boost limits that don't sound very impressive when you're bench racing. If your goal is simply to run high boost, swap your pistons and rods and get a larger turbo.

So why would it be easy to blow the engine b.c i thought they were rated for high horse power. I was just worried abuot melting the pistons more than blowing the engine b.c the e-manage doesnt really mess with anything big.

Doesn't mess with anything big? It runs your fuel and timing maps, and it removes the factory safeguards for tuning... you can do anything you want parts-wise, PROVIDED that you have proper tuning. The point is, when you ask "how much boost does it take to melt my pistons?" that is not the same question as "how much boost can my pistons hold?" You are already running enough boost to break your pistons (not sure what you mean by "melt" them- you can't do that no matter what.) So don't worry about boost. Just ask your tuner if you can meet your power goals on your stock motor, and if not, what setup would he recommend?

^ boost pressure has very very little to do with how long the pistons last....

believe them if you want but I don't...hell I run 21-22 psi all day long on stock WRX pistons over 86k miles on the car....+300whp...

Well, those guys don't have the best reputation for knowledge. I have seen many, many STis running between 20-25 pounds of boost.
