It's really a personal choice. A catback will give you a little bit power gain (10-20hp), nothing too crazy. Like someone on the board said: a 3" catback is a 3" catback, there is really not much difference in performance among different brands. Most of the aftermarket catbacks' sound are louder and the look is more aggressive and people like that. if you go for titanium, it will save you 20+ pounds of weight compare to stock. If you get a exhaust with a huge tip, it may attracts a lot of attention from cops. In CA, noise level of 95db is the limit, and people with loud and big a$$ looking exhaust get pulled over all the time. I believe HKS hi power is a loud exhaust.

I went for a more stock looking exhaust - Perrin twin tip. I really like it but it's bit on the loud side.

Actually HKS Hi-Power is legal in all 50 states, and you can have HKS send you papers that say so too, with a free flowing exhaust you will notice alittle bit quick turbo spool up also.

I picked up a Tanabe Super Medallion Racing, for the WRX (not the larger-piping version for the STi), for my STi, and I'm very happy with the sound and throttle response mainly.

It added some pep, but nothing crazy. I'd definately recommend a catback for an otherwise stock STi, and leave a turboback for going into stage modifications...

Are you referring to titanium exhaust made by GReddy, JIC, etc? I'm not aware that STi makes any titanium exhaust. Do you have a pic of this exhaust you are talking about?

I think it's a waste to just get a cat-back.

Get a full turbo-back...a down-pipe and cat-back exhaust. <---this is where the HP gain is at.

If you just want sound and looks just get an axle back exhaust and save some $$$

That's the titanium muffler for the super limited S202 model (400 only?). Looks very nice but I am not sure if STi mass produce this piece and if any vendor actually carries it for retail at all. It could be one of these direct import from Japan. If you find anyone sells it, please let us know.

$1200 for an axleback is outrageous - its probably because they have to go through all the extra troubles to find one. I saw a GReddy catback Ti on an EVO8 once, great looking and quality. You can probably find one for $800-$900. Good luck.
