i forget where i read but the basic design of the STI crank goes back to the mid 80s when the ej engines where being designed and subaru has changed the design little from then
it should also be noted that the crank that is used in the WRC car is the same as in the STI but it is nitrid treated
even people with high power(400+HP) RS-Ts use the factory crank and have no problems
the weak points are the pistons and con rods

Keep in mind though, they are referring to the 2.0 liter crank. The crank in the WRC car is also 2.0 liters (shorter stroke).
Perhaps the USDM STI engine is as robust as the JDM STI engine, perhaps not. I'm just trying to find out what is known, not what is hoped.

yes that is what i read
i know what your saying but from what people post on the boards the problems they have are the pistons and they break from poor tuning i havent seen a crank break or rod break on the STI yet but then again no one breaken a STI from make big power that i have heard of
what i know is that the rods and definitely the crank ARE robust
but if i have heard of people over reving and spining bearing i guess if a body wanted to rev it high the bearing are going to need to be changed
