SPT Intake With PROTUNE

So here is the question and before any flames begin I have serached every thread known to man on this...

I am getting a stage 2 W/Protune and wondering if I should get a SPT Intake prior to the tune? From what I hear the Intake does nothing for the car but some have said the car needs to be tuned to see any effects.

I have a "07 and want to get teh most out of the Protune and if the intake gives rather than takes from the protune then I will get it otherwise I will keep my money for something else..

Any opinions?

When Paul@Dbtuned tuned my car he had to calibrate the MAF to get the car to idle correctly. I'd definately get it before the protune.

I've had Ed and Mike tune my car. They had no problem with the intake. Actually Ed was impressed with how stable to idle was with the SPT intake. It's a no brainer really. It's a good intake. Subaru would not realease a part that will not affect warranty and will require you to protune. Think about it...

I know the intake should have no problems but did it help with the protune.. Did the tuners think it was beneficial..

I am leaning towards getting it and the heatshield prior to the tune for the following reasons:

1: Looks (Like the look over the big hunk of plastic)
2: Its Subaru so probably the best Aftermarket Intake for the STi (Would never get any other brand)
3: Performance (Hope it helps, especially if tuned)
4: Sound (Heard it sound good)

I'm 90% sure its a good choice but just seeing exactly what the concensus is. I hope it should be a good help especially on the newer 07 ECU..

Nything else people have to say about the Intake? Advice? OR if I get it any questions you want me to answer let me know and I will try and add to the knowledge on this intake

All of your reasons are right for buying this intake. I have nothing bad to say about it. Many other intakes were just simply not engineered to work properly. This one was. Buy it, you won't be diappointed.

as long as you are getting tuned you should be ok. Just keep in mind, you are probably going to soak more heat in the intake using it. If you do not need an intake for a front mount setup, for a biger turbo, or by your tuners recommendation, then keep the stock box.

It really comes down to what your tuner says. If he says he can get more out of your car with it, then get it. Otherwise, save your money for something with a better cash to HP ratio.

IMO for the reasons he stated above, $170 is a small price to pay. As hp goes, you won't get much, you will get some better response. If you had plans for a BOV, buy the intake and forget about the BOV. This intake sounds like it's sucking in half of the Ozone layer when your on it and the stock BOV sounds great.

Don't worry no intentions of getting a blow-off valve..

Still not sure about getting this will think about it abit longer, heard the sound is good though, that might be the only positive thing thie intake has... I reckon there are no negatives to the intake other than cost though.. So its all down to wah tI want to do with the money, might just buy springs instead..

Any other opinions? Thanks for the response guys helping me out greatly.

In terms of performance springs are a better bet. Crucial springs. It's sounds like you are just beginning to mod. Correct? Think in terms of handling, tires, wheels, sway bars, end links, springs, struts, bushings. That sort of stuff. The TD-04 is way undersized for the 2.5L. It spools plenty fast enough. You will not notice a difference. Once you get a bigger turbo, then go with the intake.

Well I have a SPT Intake on my 06 STI. Sounds nice! But for some reason I get the feeling I'm no longer getting as much HP as what I got from the Stock Box. I think in the summer you might want to put the stock intake box back in. I'm planning on doing so. I might not put the intake in unless i get a whole turbo back exhaust system.

Did you have the car tuned with the intake? I know most people are saying a little loss of torque at the low end but this is with no tune..

Any in take on the STi I think is not benefical without a tune.. I have only found a handful of accounts with people using an intake with a tune.. I don't think I would get this or any intake without a tune..
