I think a short shift will help clean up the shifts buts its also because we get a longer 5th gear than what this trans was originally designed for(ie. the rest of the world) which makes the syncros have to work harder to match the speed of the gears and accelerates wear and grinding. Mine started at 20k and now at 45K it wont shift into 5th at any RPMs over 2K I have a set of JDM 5-6 gears and new syncros Im throwing in when I do my clutch at 50K.
of, and stay away from synthetics, this trans is very fussy about fluids and alot of us only had the prob after switching to synth

the manual method:
make sure your car is stone cold
unplug battery for 10min.
Turn key to on position (don't start car, don't touch gas pedal)
let engine fan turn on, then wait for it to turn off
turn key to off position, then on position
done

I thought you could just unplug the battery and press the brakes to drain the system. Then hook back up and your ready to go. It has worked to reset a CEL.
Do you know what turning the key does?
