Well spoolup depends on load and will differ from dyno to dyno and especially street. The test gear is also important... we used third. Either way, it doesn't seem like boost should come up this slowly. I'd like to log another STI to compare.

Sure... anytime you want, you can come out here. Let me know a day or two in advance to make sure I'm available. Also, I come down to Novato once in a while to visit friends, so we could meet up there too. Although I don't really know of a good straight, flat road around there to do 3rd or 4th gear pulls.

don't tell me yours is doing this??

I know the stock shifter makes for a long 4-5 shift, I've had it pop out of gear a couple times during hard shifting, but never actual grinding...

I'm going to get the factory shortshifter, I think it will solve my problem.

FYI my car will be receiving the factory ecu reflash on monday, when it goes in for this boosting problem...

yeah hate to break it to ya but its a common problem at this point, I started a thread on nabisco about it a few months ago and now its about 4 pages of other STI owners that start getting a 4-5 grind. I think a short shift will help clean up the shifts buts its also because we get a longer 5th gear than what this trans was originally designed for(ie. the rest of the world) which makes the syncros have to work harder to match the speed of the gears and accelerates wear and grinding. Mine started at 20k and now at 45K it wont shift into 5th at any RPMs over 2K I have a set of JDM 5-6 gears and new syncros Im throwing in when I do my clutch at 50K.

of, and stay away from synthetics, this trans is very fussy about fluids and alot of us only had the prob after switching to synth
