Poor Am reception on STi

hey guys.
Couldn't find much solid on a search.
My Am was working as well as my FM when they finally hooked up my antenna line. Since I had my windows tinted, the Am sucks.
What would I have to do to get the AM reception again?
I know the antenna is on the rear window but I can't understand why a slab of film would mess up the reception that bad?

Any help would be awesome. Thanks.

If you installed a metallic dye based tint, that would interfere with the reception.

By metallic dye i don't mean mirror tint, although mirror tint would have the same effect, but i mean some tints that gurantee against turning purple are made with metallic dyes that resist the effects of UV, that would be what is causing the interference.

On the other hand, traditional cheap tints that use regular ink do not interefere in the same way.....but they do fade and purple.

I would maybe look in to s physical antenna that attatches to the trunklip or something like that.

Did they hook up the power wire for the antenna? if they didn't doing so might improve the reception, but because the antenna is etched on to the rear window, it will never be as good as it was when it didn't have tint.

thanks for the help Seraph.
Another quesiton: if i were to cut the tint around the antenna (no tint touching the antenna) will the Am reappear? Or will it still interfere?

That i'm not absolutely sure of, but my guess is that it will still interfere to some degree because the whole metallic piece of tint is still picking up all the signals as opposed to the car's antenna, which was kinda weak to begin with even when powered.

EDIT: Um.......shouldn't this be in the stereo and security forum?

I chose the STi forum because the question persists on the STi. I didn't feel like writing "I drive a 2004 Subaru WRX Imprezza STi. My antenna is etched into my rear glass window".
Guess I'm SOL.

Is it possible to find tint without metallic component and will not fade to purple? Sorry I want to have my cake and eat it too.

I wouldn't cut out the tint because you might mess it up. I had the same problem and i put a longer antenna in the rear window and now it works just fine.

i'm a little confused about the longer antenna. Are you referring to adding another antenna onto the back glass (physically sticking out of the window)?
