You are hitting fuel cut (or ignition cut).
I assume you have some sort of boost controller. Basically, the ECU is freaking out because it is seeing things it doesn't expect, so it cuts you ignition and fueling to save the motor. I'd recomend getting a real engine management solution to fix this problem.
If you are stock, then there is a problem somewhere, and I'd take it in for service.

What mods?
Do you have an after market downpipe? If you do, chances are, that might be doing it...
You can go to places like Checkers, Autozone, or go to a local meet...find someone with their Cobb Accessport and have them pull the CEL Code for you...that would be a good starting point...of course you could go to a Subaru dealer to do the same...but if they happen to be a dealership with a "no modding" attitude...you could be in for a bit of a headache...

Ignition cut
Ok most likely, you are having a boost creap issue. This can occur if you have a high flow exhaust set up or if you are trying to increase boost with a manual or otherwise boost controler on a stock turbo. Your stock turbo has an internal waste gate which is... not over engineered and is near its maximum capacity. You can have this ported and pollished to increase its efficiency up to aproximatly 18.5 psi of boost before you will start to see a creap in your 4th, 5th and 6th gears.
You may also have an O2, MAF or other sensor going bad as well. If you have mods, take it to a good tuning shop, get an EcuTek reflash and they can take care of any issues you have. If its bone stock take it back to the dealer and get it fixed.
good luck.
