Its not "needed" but recommended that you run a fmic. If you did run a topmount i would go with a spearco unit. I ran my dom3 w/ spearco and was fine. Or maybe have bell make you one. Theres many people out there running over 400whp with a spearco.

I have rebuild many engines that have failed at stock power output.
You have been warned.

I think what Paul is saying is that you need to upgrade driver skills at the same time you upgrade your power. Drive like an idiot and bounce off the rev limiter all the time, and you can blow up any engine, stock or not.

^^^^^^^^^ What he said. As for my 2c, I would absolutely go with a rotated setup off the bat if you plan on running any turbo other than a stock turbo. It saves you so much money if you decide you want big power later on down the road. I made this mistake, and have paid heavily for going both stock mount then rotated setups. If you feel you are never going to want more than 360whp, then obviously don't bother with rotated, but if you have that feeling lurking in your right foot, that you may want lots of glorious hp and tq at the push of your pedal, then go rotated. I'm not going to make a long post, but honestly I wouldn't recommend doing any turbo upgrades to a 2.5 wrx longblock using the 5speed (except for maybe a stock STi turbo). That's my recommendation though, and everyone has their own idea of what the 5speed impreza tranny, and stock 2.5 wrx motor can handle (good driver or not).

thats the kind of info I was looking for about the tranny

I had originally been thinking about doing the sti turbo swap, but more would be awesome if safe/possible
when the time comes i can look at the amount of funds i have and that will be a key player to the setup i decide to go with
