Thumbs up

You should try putting some kind of funnel where the tube comes out the front of the car. It might be easier for air to enter the pipe when driving at higher speeds due to all the turbulence. My 2 cents.

Hacka Duct

My version I did a while ago. I originally posted it in "Ongoing Projects".
Notice the same silver dryer vent inside.

https://www.i-club.com/forums/showpo...0&postcount=74

That was gonna get changed to the black brake ducting, but the front bumper was jacked in a recent crash. I am replacing the covers with WRX foglight surrounds for a cleaner look for the ducting.

And yes, it reduced intake surface temps by 50 degrees.

Went to the local hardware and bought this soft cloth mesh & used a cable tie to
tie it around the intake... IT WOULD BE IN THE GARDEN SECTION. TRY FLY SCREEN
BUT NOT THE METAL MESH!!! SOFT CLOTH MESH

This thread makes my head hurt. Yes, let's put zipties and aluminum dryer ducting in our airboxes!

I personally prefer PVC piping with a few elbows. Just a little more rigid and smoother on the inside. Think about all the joints they make for pvc...

Not to pee on your pomegranites, but i've got a couple reasons not to do this.

1 hydro lock is only a matter of time
2 you're turning a cai into a cai
3 on many cars, that's a low pressure area
4 flexible tubing creates a lot of turbulence
5 the intake is pulse-tuned (granted this isn't that important to a turbo car)

If it works though, run with it.

Have you tried it w/o the duct and just into the fender (block off the fender to wheel well holes except the airbox one) I'm not sure the air outside by the bumper is any colder than the air in the fender. I've done measurements of just the fender area and that's plenty cold.

The material you used (drier duct) will eventually start to shread due to the vibration. That's what happened to others that have used that material. Here is some temp work I did in the past:

You should get the same results just doing this:

Pretty! Sounds good, but I would still like a little bend with a small rain exit. I am sure the Sti woudn't care to drink any h20.

I don't have any pics but I did this to my WRX. I had the silencer deleted already w/ a black plastic elbow into the fenderwell... in this hot summer weather I saw IAT's climb into the 120's and 130's.

I'm honestly not concerned about water or pulse tuning... I have a filter to block dirt and water... not to mention the water would have to go a long ways. I suppose if I totally submerged the front of the car something could possible happen... but then again it's not really air tight where I put the tubing into the elbow.

It looks kind of ghetto being silver.. but w/ a WRX fog light panel w/o the fog light it fits pretty darn well.

Anyway... 120+ intake temps down to maybe ambient +5 is a huge difference. Fenderwell air in the Rex must get pretty heated up by the engine bay.

For those people who have a fenderwell draw I'd take a look at your IAT's.. you might be surpised.

Anyway.. final comments... took almost no time to do, cheap, and effective.
