Smile Light mods on 2007 sti help.

i was lookin for some input..

sooo i was thinkin about gettin some mods that are less noticeable, expecially when a cop decides to POP my hood. i want some power mods that they wont know what it is when they see it.. unless they knew anything about cars

so far my list is.
cobb lightwieght pulley
cobb up pipe and down pipe
---
any other suggestions? or better brands?
and if i change those how much does( if i even need) - Tuning cost?

oh yeah. keeping it under 1grand also.
------
short story for this precaution

i was driving home and 3 cops in 1 police car pulled me over, they initially pulled me over for a AFTERMARKET EXHAUST, while i explained to them that it was STOCK.. since it is. I got punked, they told me to shut up-- and all sorts of other things that showed they were just really gay people who had nothing better to do. they explained that my AREA was complainin about LOUD exhaust and so forth.. anyway. i got cited for Runnin a stop sign -- which... I DIDNT .. and not having a front licenses plate. its funny that they would catch and cite me.. when every day and night people do donuts infront of my house... and never get caught-

anyway.. soo any inputs anybody?? not about my situation but.. the mods

thanks

Your car attracted attention by running with no front plate. Import cars get pulled over for that reason and that gives law enforcement a reason to scrutinize the vehicle for other infractions. Another fairly common reason for being pulled over is driver's and front passenger windows with noticeably dark window film. Sure, folks get away with these two items all the time but these are commonly cited infractions for a car with nothing else apparently out of compliance. Don't give them a reason to pull you over in the first place.

Get a turboback system that keeps it fairly quiet. 3" diameter downpipe all the way to the muffler tip is common. Don't bother with the uppipe on your budget - it's already catless.

Tuning is going to be a pricey item. The Cobb AccessPORT is popular. Vendors charge pretty much the same for the unit and licensing itself but may vary a bit for their tuning services. You can use the off-the-shelf map for a turboback exhaust from Cobb with the AccessPORT but while it will be a noticeable improvement over stock, a custom tune will make a greater difference in driveability and power.

You can ask around in your regional sub-forum for recommendations on where to go for tuning services, but take the advice with a grain of salt. I'd contact each tuner and find out how important it is to them to make safe power for driveability and reliable engine life. Not so important is peak horsepower for a mild, street-driven vehicle. A broad torque curve will make a bigger difference than a few more peak horsepower.

Crossposting the same topic to multiple forums is not allowed. Your other post has been moved from the Subaru General forum.

SFPD hassled you? You sure you're as innocent as you say? I've been driving around in an 03 GTI, lowered, TBE, FMIC, all windows tinted dark and they've never given me a problem.

CHP on the other hand.

Yeah I would agree with the exhaust. These turbo cars love it when they can breathe and of course a local visit to your tuner to get a nice costum tune with extra boost = more power . The cobb ap is a little pricey. Reserch on the free software out there called openecu/enginuity. It will use your own ecu, no licensing by the tuners. All you need to pay for is the tuner's skill.

The Prodrive 3 port boost solenoid is a cool mod for $99, total OEM appearance besides, it's under a plastic cover in the engine compartment. You will need EM and a tune though...

Got UTEC on my car and had a local speed shop tune it, costed me only $100. A new UTEC is pretty pricey but i got a used one off Ebay for $400, they told me used one is fine as long as the wires arent totally fried, hope that helps

Welcome

Well it sounds like you are familar with the Cobb stuff so you need to include a Cobb AP if you do not have one. It is used to change the "EM" engine management which is the same thing that the UTEC does it is just made by turboXS. The prodrive boost solenoid is used to control the boost that your turbo makes but you need to have EM if you use this.

So if you want a list this is how it goes

1. Cobb AP or something like it
2. Down pipe
3. Cat back exhaust

a. If you want something quiet go with one of the following. Borla Hush, Maddad Whisper or the Tanabe touring medallion (I have this on my Wagon) The first 2 can be purchased with the twin tip so they are really stealthy!

Get the EM first because you need that to support all of the other stuff

Dennis
