Already got a v7 trans, now I should be dropping in the block.
What sort've gains should I see with the TXS st4 (UTEC, vf30, PWR TMIC, etc..) I have already? I was able to get a 12.7 @ 104 before, but for whatever reason, lately all I'm seeing is 13.3 @ 99; probably due to tuning.

Thanks. Hey where are you in CT? My wife is from W Hartford and we will more than likely be taking leave sometime in March prior to me deploying to Afg.

You're gonna need a bigger turbo to go much faster Pat. If you are already at a high state of tune, there isn't any more top end power to be gained by going to the STi shortblock. If you're getting a JDM STi motor, then the 8000 rpm redline will allow you to maybe get some more top end. However, with the extra torque from the 2.5, you *might* be able to lower your ETs a little by having quicker 60 foot and 0-60 times. I too am building a motor with the STi block and a VF30. I'm expecting about 250 hp to the wheels max, but about half a million pounds of torque (okay, not really). But it will defintely be a low end car. You might want to look into switching to a VF22 or even going to an all new setup with like an HKS 2530, or even bigger, with an external wastegate. A 25% larger turbo on a 25% larger motor will have a similar power band as your WRX with a VF30... just a lot higher.

I have to go with the WRX heads & VF30 for now...fundage.
Future goals are US STI heads w/ some 'to-be-determined' cams, bore/stroke/sleeve, and a t3/t4 with, hopefully, the WRX stocker injectors flowing 740cc's and the stock FPR opened up a little (ala Kingpin's advice)

Almost just got my hands on an SR50.
Oh well, it would have been on a shelf for a while anyhow. It's gonna be another week before the head gaskets come in.

Sweet. I'm Army so I don't really know the normal duty for a sailor. Does that mean you're on shore duty because you're sub is drydocked for maintenance or upgrade? If so, for how long? When's you're next float.
I may be taking some leave there in the next month or two (carless).

If you are running US STi cams, you need a special tool to hold the cam in place.
If you are running say any other cam: wrx, sti, JUN, etc.
You can hold it in place with either a crescent wrench or a a regular wrench.
Then get either a Allen socket 1/2 drive. A large breaker bar. And some sort of tube to hold on the wrench and go at it.
The cam bolts can strip out very easily. We have had several cases of having to weld a nut on the cam bolt and remove it that way. You will obviously need to have new cam bolts handy if that happens.
