CAI (during) winter (worried about drawing water)

You didn't fill out your location field but if it really worries you, replace the CAI with the complete airbox and snorkel. Subaru invested time and money developing an intake system that would work troublefree, under a wide variety of conditions. It ain't pretty, but you won't draw water with the unmodified stock airbox unless you try to cross a stream or something.
