Similar?

Excuse me if this question has been asked before; I was wondering if the 06 Forester XT engine is a detuned version of the 06 STI engine? From previous threads I gather that they are quite similar.

Thanks, Bob

I think that the block is exactly the same but internals are different enabling the STI to take high boost levels.

I don't know if it is conclusive or not, but I've heard that the internals are actually the same. The differences comes from the heads and the tuning.

it's the same as the 06 wrx engine(same compression). the 06 sti has a lower compression than the xt and wrx. on the other hand, the 05 forester xt and 05 sti are the same engine.

and ECU tuning, some people have installed the STi's turbo and IC then just plugged in an STi ECU. The 04 XT also has a pre cat and the STi does not the resonator in the exhaust is smaller in the STi too. No one is sure about the fuel pump either. We think it's the same. Quite a few guys on the Forester forum (www.subaruforester.com) are putting down 300 WHP. I'm gonna hit the dyno this month and see what I'm up to with my mods. I was able to beat a stock STi in the 1/4 this year, but I'm not stock (and he was).

Yes but AFAIK the injectors are the same, the turbo will bolt on and the IC needs some bracket modification and you need to watch the back of the IC does not rub a hole in the AC line (needs to be bent out of the way or something)

Just to give another perspective. '06WRX = '06FXT, engine wise.

'06WRX & '06FXT Fuel injectors are larger than any STi. Thay are around 550cc in size. STi injectors should be around 520cc.
