WRX engine tick
I know our engines are known to tick alot, so i decided to make a quick vid to see if the amount of ticking mine has is "normal". Seems to tick an awful lot.

What kind of motor oil are you using? Its normal for the EJ20 to tick when cold. Using a quality synthetic oil will make some of the ticking sound go away.

from my limited understand the tick would be caused by a slightly sticky valve. You could try pouring a small amount of Marvel Mystery oil into the crank case and see if it can loosen up your valves a lil.
This may not be the problem but if you had some MM handy it would be worth the shot
