Unhappy Why is there GAS in my OIL PAN??

i have an 05 wrx with all major bolt-ons like header, turbo back exhaust, intake, fmic, and a bov. i recently bought a AEM EMS but i have not tuned it yet. i changed my oil the other day and there was gas in the oil pan...no joke...just to make sure i wasnt crazy i had people that know nothing about cars smell it and they agreed it smelt like gas. i changed the oil when it was cooled off like normal...i did notice that when the oil was coming out it was very thin and came out farly rapidly...any ideas

You sure it wasn't coolant? With non-synthetic oil, if coolant was in there it would look sort of milky and have a weird smell.

IF not coolant, I've no idea why gas would be there.

it can happen from blow by. If your rings do not seat properly. On the compression stoke fuel can blow past the compression ring and mix with your oily.

Another cause could be an extremely rich mixture. The unburned fuel will wash oil off the cylinder walls, breaking down the piston ring-to-cylinder wall seal, and go right into the crankcase. The telltale sign of running this rich is black exhaust smoke especially under load. The exhaust will also smell like gasoline. I can't think of any other way that fuel could get into the crankcase unless one of your injectors is stuck open or something.

Gasoline in the crankcase will dilute the oil, making it very thin like adding solvent.

Is that AEM EMS currently serving engine management duties in your car? If so, did the problems start at that time? When do you plan to tune it, or get it tuned?

thanks wiggles that sounds like it could be the most accurate analysis, it was only after i installed the EMS i took it off until i get it tuned or figure out whats wrong with it, but my exhaust smells like gas bad when i had it on. now it doesnt smell like it used to. i was running extremely rich and got about 11 mpg and without it i get about 16, not much better but still way better than 11
Thanks

Next time you change your oil don't dump any gas in the funnel. That should fix the problem.

My car is pretty much stock, and my used oil had a distinct gas smell to it for the first 7-8 changes. The last 7 -8 changes have not smelled so much like raw fuel. Perhaps it took that long for the rings to fully seat? Who knows...but I wouldn't worry too much about it at this point, just make sure you are diligent with your oil change intervals.
